Exploring the Arts

Williams is known for its strong visual and performing arts programs, and Berkshire County is an internationally known cultural hotspot, so what better way to make new friends and connect with the campus than enjoying and making art together? Exploring the Arts will give you a taste of the creative opportunities Williams and the surrounding community have to offer, and you will meet the amazing students and faculty that share your interests! In addition to participating in workshops led by faculty and student leaders, you will also take in some of the best museums, concerts, and shows in the Berkshires. In the evenings, get ready for student coffeehouse performances, a movie night (plenty of popcorn provided), a bonfire, and more! After Exploring the Arts, the Purple Valley, and the creative, quirky, interesting people that live here will feel like home.

Previous workshops include:

  • Poetry
  • Museum curating
  • Song writing
  • Frosh Revue (student improv group)
  • SpeakFree (student word/performance poetry)
  • Sankofa (step team)
  • Drawing
  • NBC (hip hop dance group)
  • Zambezi (marimba band)
  • Kusika (African dance troupe)
  • Playwriting
  • A capella
  • Ritmo Latino (Latin dance)
  • CoDA (contemporary dance)
  • Gospel Choir

In addition to exploring the arts at Williams, you will also get the opportunity to explore the rich culture and art of the wider Berkshire area. In the past, students have visited:

  • Mass MoCA
  • The Clark Art Institute
  • Hancock Shaker Village
  • Shakespeare & Company
  • Images Cinema
  • Barrington Stage Company
  • Greylock Bowl
  • Gallery 51
  • Downstreet Art

Exploring the Arts is the perfect way to take in the rich art and culture of the Berkshires, connect with students and faculty with similar artistic interests, and most importantly, feel comfortable at Williams.
